Your first character
An account is who you are. A character is who you play.
What it does
The server stores your characters. Each one keeps its own appearance, XP, Force powers, skills and languages.
Creating one from the menu
The menu route needs no commands and gives you more flexibilty to enter character information in a single go.
- Press ESC to open the menu bar.
- Select Character, then Manage.
- Select CREATE NEW CHARACTER and work through the wizard.
- The wizard selects your first character automatically when it finishes.
The wizard asks for an id, a full name, pronouns, species, homeworld, scale, hearing, a second language and whether the character is aquatic.
Only the id and the full name are required.
Creating one from the console
The id is the handle the server uses. It is 1 to 20 characters, using letters, numbers, hyphens and
underscores only. It must be unique across the whole server, not just your account. The name is
what other players see, and it can contain spaces.
Selecting and setting a default
Until a character is active, the server holds you in spectator when you try to join. Run these in the console, or use the SELECT and SET DEFAULT buttons on the Manage screen.
Set the character you play most as your default and it loads automatically when you log in.
Run /character default none to clear it.
Playing an extra
If a director needs a crowd, a guard or a body in a corridor, you do not need a real character. An extra is disposable and nothing about it is saved.
An extra can be selected from ESC > CHARACTER > QUICK EXTRA.
Altenerative you can use the console commands.
The optional scale is a percentage of normal height. Extras can change their name, model and scale, and nothing else. They vanish when the map changes.
Things to note
- How many characters you get per account depends on your membership. Guests get exactly one. Full members get 10 by default, but the server can set anything from 1 to 30.
- Former members and disabled accounts cannot create characters. Creating needs a guest or full-member account.
- Character ids are unique across the entire server. If someone else already used
rhenvaal, you need a different id. The display name can still be whatever you like. - Switching characters has a 5-second wait. It only applies once you already have one active, so your first select is instant.
- The same character cannot be played from 2 places at once. The server refuses a second session that tries to select it.
- Guests can only change their character's name and model. It is advisable guests use the creation wizard, because everything else is locked until they obtain membership.
