Chat and languages
"I understood one word in five and it was the rude one."
— Protocol Unit K-9R
Roleplay is played out in chat. StoryForce adds range, languages, private channels and a set of shortcuts that keep your hands on the keyboard.
- Chat channels: say, whisper, shout, out of character and actions
- Say-line shortcodes: the shortcuts you can type straight into chat
- Chat range and hearing: how far your voice carries, and who hears it
- Languages: learning, speaking, and translators
- Comlink: private calls across the map
- myNPC: speak as a companion character
- Colour codes: the full palette, including the letter codes
- Console colours: why the console shows only 10 colours
Whispers are not private. Distance fading happens on each player's own machine, so the server sends every message to everyone. Someone who has changed their settings can read a whisper from across the room. Use comlink for anything that genuinely must stay between two characters.
