Install StoryForce

Install the client into your Jedi Academy GameData folder.

Update an existing installation

Update before joining a server that requires the new client.

  1. Close StoryForce and copy your writable StoryForce folder somewhere safe.
  2. Download the client for your platform from the server's release announcement.
  3. Extract it into the same GameData folder and replace the game files when asked.
  4. Restore any replaced personal files, including login.cfg, quickaccess.cfg, radialmenu.cfg and saved stunt sheets.
  5. Start StoryForce again.

Keep your saved scenes and props in place. You do not need to delete the old StoryForce folder.

Download StoryForce

Use the client linked in your server's release announcement.

Each platform has a client file and a server file:

StoryForce - Client (windows-x86_64).zip
StoryForce - Server (windows-x86_64).zip

Take the client file for your platform: windows-x86, windows-x86_64, linux-x86_64, macos-x86_64 or macos-arm64.

Extract into GameData

Extract the client zip straight into your GameData folder.

It brings its own StoryForce folder with it, so you don't need to make one first.

The program and the renderer will end up at the GameData level, everything else inside a StoryForce folder.

Start the game

Windows

Run storyforce.x86_64.exe, or the 32-bit version (storyforce.x86.exe) if that's what you downloaded.

macOS and Linux

Run the launcher inside the StoryForce folder, or storyforce.x86_64 directly:

./PlayStoryForce.sh

If the launcher is not executable, restore its permission:

chmod +x PlayStoryForce.sh

From the Mods menu

You cannot start StoryForce from the Mods menu in-game. StoryForce uses its own version of the game engine.

Things to note

  • You do not need OpenJK. StoryForce runs its own program and renderer built on an OpenJK foundation.
  • StoryForce generated files (like login details, screenshots, configs etc) land in GameData/StoryForce. If the game cannot write to that folder it uses your user folder.
  • Your own files should be added to the GameData/Base folder, not the StoryForce folder.
