Read your server's logs
Find your log files
Your logs are in two different directories, and your database is in a third.
| What | Where | Example, with the shipped launcher |
|---|---|---|
| The four channel logs | <fs_homepath>/<fs_game>/logs/<year>/<month>/<day>/ | GameData/StoryForce/logs/2026/08/28/roleplay.log |
| The console log | <fs_homepath>/<fs_game>/storyforce_console.log | GameData/StoryForce/storyforce_console.log |
| The database | <fs_homepath>/<fs_game>/db/ | GameData/StoryForce/db/storyforce.db |
What lands in each channel
Four files split the StoryForce trail by purpose:
| File | What it collects |
|---|---|
roleplay.log | Chat in every form, joins and welcomes, scenes, NPCs, placed entities, XP awards |
security.log | Account and ban activity, refused admin commands, and every rcon line |
server.log | Server start and shutdown, map loads, the database, backups, the D1 mirror, Discord, LLM NPCs, triggers, tuning and weather |
storyforce.log | Everything the mod logs, filtered or not. The whole trail in one place |
Every line is stripped of colour codes and control characters and stamped HH:MM:SS, so they are plain text to search.
Choose what is written and shown
sf_logdetail chooses which channel events echo to the server console. Its shipped value is
roleplay security. Use 0 for no routine channel echoes, an empty value for every channel, or a minus-prefixed name such as -server to exclude one. Warnings and errors always reach the console.
sf_logLevel sets the structured detail from 0 for off through 5 for debug. sf_logSubsys can then allow named systems such as db backup, or exclude them with a value such as -llm -scene.
Those two settings affect the console and the topical roleplay, server and security files.
storyforce.log still keeps every structured StoryForce log call.
The other file controls are:
sf_logchannels 0stops the dated channel files.sf_logSync 1flushes each channel line immediately.0buffers writes.sf_logkeepdaysdeletes older day folders. Its default0keeps them forever.
The dedicated server also appends its whole console to storyforce_console.log by default. At the default com_logfileMax 8192, it rotates after 8192 KB and keeps the previous file as .1. Set the limit to 0 to stop rotation. Setting logfile 0 disables the console file entirely.
