Manage characters from the server console
Create and edit character records with full operator authority. You need the server console or authenticated RCON access.
There is no in-game screen for this command. The server console is the command line on the machine running the server.
sf_managecharacter refuses as=. Over RCON, it accepts by= for attribution and id= to match replies. Run commands over RCON covers remote access.
Inspect a record
Use exact account names and character IDs. Matching ignores case. Player names and slots do not select characters here.
| Command | Result |
|---|---|
sf_managecharacter fields [page] | Accepted fields, formats and limits |
sf_managecharacter list <account> [page] | Characters owned by an account |
sf_managecharacter show <id> [field|all] [page] | Stored field values |
For Zala Kale's name, the structured reply is:
Follow the next page until it is 0. Each page holds up to 16 data records.
Create a character
The owning account must already exist. Quote values containing spaces.
sf_managecharacter create <account> <id> <name> [field value ...]
sf_managecharacter create zala ozun-te "ozun te" species Human
A successful reply starts with OK sf_managecharacter and includes the character record. An error starts with ERR sf_managecharacter and explains the refusal.
New IDs take 3 to 10 letters, numbers, underscores or hyphens. Existing IDs and owners cannot change.
New characters use the server's starting XP and normal defaults. If a personal account has no default character, this becomes its default for the next login.
Use the root account, normally storyforce, as owner to create a community character. Community characters stay supporting.
Change fields together
sf_managecharacter set <id> <field> <value> [field value ...]
sf_managecharacter set zalakale species Human homeworld Corellia
All pairs in one request succeed together or are rejected together. Active users receive the committed changes.
Run sf_managecharacter fields for the server's accepted values. Unknown fields, duplicates and values outside the limits are refused.
| Field | Consequence |
|---|---|
name | Changes the display name. It leaves the record name, listedname, unchanged |
xp | Sets the total. It logs the difference and bypasses mentor approval, leaving pending claims intact |
chartype main | Demotes the previous main character on that personal account |
forcepowers | Sets current Force ranks |
force_bought | Sets purchased Force ranks |
loadout | Grants added equipment immediately. Clearing it changes future spawns, without removing held equipment |
Force templates have 18 digits. Skill templates have 20. Read their order and caps from fields before editing.
Current Force ranks must not exceed purchased ranks after the complete edit. Change both templates in one request when needed. These edits do not spend XP.
Manage points of interest
Use the structured poi commands to edit a character's points of interest:
| Command | Use |
|---|---|
sf_managecharacter poi <id> list [page] | Read the markers |
sf_managecharacter poi <id> add <force|skill:name> <tier> <text> | Add a marker |
sf_managecharacter poi <id> set <index> <field> <value> [field value ...] | Change a marker |
sf_managecharacter poi <id> remove <index|all> | Remove one or all markers |
For example:
sf_managecharacter poi zalakale add force 0 "A familiar presence."
Indices start at 1 and shift after deletion. A character can have 6 markers.
Editable fields are gate, range and tier0 to tier3. Range is 100 to 8,192 units. Each tier holds up to 256 bytes.
The gate must support the chosen tier. Clearing every tier removes the marker.
Things to note
- Operator edits bypass progression restrictions. Membership, character-count, purchase and XP-budget checks do not apply. Field formats, references and configured maxima still do.
- Exact text has an encoded form. Every positional argument accepts
@hex:<Windows-1252 bytes>. Use@hex:alone for an empty value. - Long reads arrive in chunks. Collect every page and join decoded
value_hexbytes at theiroffset. Check the resulting length againsttotal. - Account ownership and inventory are read-only. This command cannot move a character between accounts or edit inventory contents.
Next
- run commands over RCON - send these commands remotely and check their replies
