Take the director's chair

The director's chair is a switch that hands you the story tools configured for the chair and limits other admins during a scene.

It does not replace your admin rank for commands outside those locks.

More than one person can hold the chair at once.

In the menus: ESC → Direct → Start Directing

Take and leave the chair

Select Start Directing, the green row at the top.

To leave, take the same route. The top row now reads Stop Directing in red.

What taking it changes

Everyone is told. The server writes one line to every console. Leaving writes the matching line.

You are marked. Your name carries [D] on everybody's scoreboard, and your own HUD carries an orange [DIRECTOR] chip.

Two sets of tools change hands. Some use normal admin permissions while nobody is directing, then become directors-only while anyone holds the chair.

Others always need director mode. When either lock applies, the chair grants that tool regardless of rank.

Commands outside those locks still use your normal admin permissions. The server owner chooses which story tools belong to each set.

A held fade thins out for you. You see it at 65% while everybody else is at full black. Fade the screen covers it.

Find out who is directing

Open the scoreboard and look for [D] beside a name.

/directors prints the same answer as a list, and it refuses nobody:

Things to note

  • The chair follows you across a map change. Nothing is announced on the far side, so the scoreboard and /directors are the only up-to-date answers afterwards.

Prefer the console?

/director is an accepted alias.

Placing another player in the chair needs clerical admin.
