Play an opening crawl

Write an opening crawl for the whole server, with a fade or music cue at the end.

You need director mode.

In the menus: ESC → Direct → Scene → CRAWL

Write the crawl

  1. Write in the document field, up to 2,048 characters. Use blank lines to separate paragraphs.
  2. Select SAVE before testing or starting it.

Check the counter as you write. To paste a prepared crawl, select the field and press Ctrl+V.

The crawl always opens with the same fixed line, above whatever you wrote, and you cannot change it:

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away....

Rehearse it and play it

TEST plays the crawl for you and nobody else. It does not play the fanfare or fire either completion action.

START plays it for every player on the server. It starts the fixed music/cinematic_1.mp3 crawl fanfare under the scroll.

The crawl lasts 80 seconds. Its scroll speed adjusts to fit the text.

STOP ends it immediately for everyone, cancels its completion actions and returns clients to their normal background music.

What happens at the end

Fade in on completion reveals a held fade when the crawl ends.

Music on completion starts a looping track for everyone at the same moment. BROWSE picks it from the music browser without playing anything.

Everyone gets the text in their console

Every crawl prints its whole text to each player's game console before the scroll starts, in gold and framed by a +++ rule.

A player joining during a server-wide crawl receives the full console text and joins the scroll at its current point, without starting the fanfare again.

Prefer the console?

The paragraph commands take up to 511 characters each. They replace the menu document with the 4 console paragraphs.

Use the menu to keep editing an existing document.
