Running a scene
"If your navicomputer says this is a through zone, your navicomputer is a liar."
— CorSec Traffic Director
The storyteller's side of a scene: the director's chair.
Orchestrate every beat of your story from Direct on the ESC bar.
Placing models, lights and effects is building the world.
I want to…
- find the directing tools - open the Direct menu and read what each row leads to
- take the director's chair - go into director mode, and learn what it changes for everybody else
- set the scene - put the title, briefing and objectives on the left of everyone's ESC menu
- track mission progress - show a shared counter and advance its beats from the menu or a trigger
- save and load a scene - keep a dressed map as a file, and pick the scene a map opens with
- dim the map for a scene - take the map's own light down for everyone, and keep your cast readable in it
- keep one room lit - draw a box that holds its own lighting while the rest of the map goes dark
- play music for the scene - start, loop or stop a track that everybody on the server hears
- fade the screen - take everyone to black in one of 9 styles, and reveal onto the scene's title card
- play an opening crawl - scroll up to 4 paragraphs for the whole server
- play a cinematic - play a fullscreen video to everyone, or a private vision to one player
- announce a message on screen - hold a timed line across the centre of everyone's screen
- dress the knockdown - choose the pose a downed character holds and the line they read
- restrain and release a player - use handcuffs or a blindfold on yourself or another player
- talk on a director channel - join an out-of-character channel from the console at any rank
- write the scene script - put up to 16 lines of direction on the scoreboard for your channel
- write a stunt cue sheet - chain commands, add waits, and mark guarded or repeating cues
- run a stunt cue sheet - load a sheet of commands and step a scene's beats from your own keys
- film a scene - fly a damped camera for recording, free, on a track or craning up and down
- play a game of chance - roll a die, flip a credit or draw a Pazaak card in front of the room
- drop what you're carrying - put down the weapon in your hands, and get your saber hilt back afterwards
