Save a persona an NPC can keep

Saving turns an AI character into a record. An unsaved one-off talks normally and forgets everything at map change.

In the menus: ESC → Design → NPCs → select an NPC → LLM → BROWSE PERSONAS...

What saving starts

A saved, writable persona keeps files on the server's disk:

llm/liplin/persona.cfg the character you wrote
llm/liplin/verse_grenko.cfg what it remembers about one person
llm/liplin/brax_tilla.cfg and another

With automatic summaries on, a second paid request runs

  • After 6 exchanges with one person
  • After 3 minutes idle or when the conversation partner changes.

It sends the current history (up to 12 turns, and may include public lines the NPC overheard) and writes the result to the per-person file.

Create a persona from an NPC

Spawn and dress the NPC first. The NEW PERSONA form arrives already describing it.

  1. Select the NPC, select LLM, then BROWSE PERSONAS..., then NEW....
  2. Type a library name into Save as:. 1 to 32 letters, digits or underscores.
  3. Check Called:, Model:, Scale %: and Class:, filled in from the NPC.
  4. Type Detail: if it is empty. It is required. Behaviour: is optional.
  5. Select CREATE.

Detail: and Behaviour: each take up to 1,024 bytes of text in the persona editor.

Load a saved persona onto an NPC

Select the NPC, then LLM → BROWSE PERSONAS.... Select a row, then LOAD.

LOAD rewrites the NPC's model, scale, display name and persona, with no undo.

Write a persona file by hand

A persona is a plain text file at gamedata/storyforce/llm/<name>/persona.cfg, one key and one quoted value per line:

npctype "r5d2"
model "r5d2"
scale "100"
displayname "R5-D1"

detail "R5-D1, a slightly battered astromech-turned-reception-droid staffing the front desk, in service for forty years"
instructions "Unfailingly polite, a little weary. Gives directions, logs visitors, never leaves the desk. Refers combat matters to the guards."
memory "The building is busiest in the evenings. Deliveries go to the side entrance, never the front desk."

detail casts the NPC, instructions is how they behave, memory is general knowledge nothing ever writes to automatically. Per-person files sit beside it with a single memory key.

Prefer the console?

/llm personas lists the library with the load line for each one.

/llm spawn is the only route that honours a persona's class.

Quote a name with spaces. none clears the stored memory.
