Name an NPC

An NPC needs a display name before anyone can read it, and before it can say a word.

In the menus: ESC → Design → NPCs → select an NPC → RENAME

Give an NPC a display name

  1. Select the NPC on the roster.
  2. Select RENAME.
  3. Type the name and select APPLY.

Colour codes work. CLEAR takes the name off again.

You can set a name at spawn instead, from the Display name: row on the SPAWN NPC form.

RENAME is the only route to naming an NPC the map spawned for itself.

Add an FYI

An FYI is one short public note carried by the NPC, readable with no skill and no rank. Return to the roster and select FYI / POI.

The NPC FYI + POI panel holds the FYI field above the NPC's POI list.

Type the note and select SAVE, or CLEAR to take it off.

NPC points of interest covers the gated clues underneath.

The note shows as a * beside the NPC's name while somebody aims at it, and they read it by running /inspect.

Set the display name first, or the marker has nothing to sit beside. On the roster, an NPC carrying an FYI is marked ~F.

Prefer the console?

Both fields are /npc edit, and both are silent when they work. none clears either one.

/npc edit [id|targetname|name] displayname <text|none>
/npc edit [id|targetname|name] fyi <text|none>
