Use your Tech skills
Tech 1 teaches your character Binary.
Tech 2 locks doors.
Tech 3 reads other people's comlink calls. In the menus: ESC → Character → Current → Comlink: → Scanner:
Lock a door
Put your crosshair on a closed door and run /lock.
The lock is set at your own character's rank, which staff give you.
Rank 1 is the highest, so a rank 3 character locking a door leaves it open to ranks 1, 2 and 3, and turns away everyone below.
StoryForce names what you locked by its map class, so an ordinary door reads func_door.
The same commands work on aimed trigger_multiple and trigger_once walk-in triggers. Map locks covers how storytellers place and configure them.
Unlock a door
Put your crosshair on the locked door and run /unlock.
Tech 2 can crack a rank lock one rank above your standing, as well as locks you can already pass.
A full lock cannot be cracked.
Listen in on comlink traffic
Tech 3 adds a scanner to your comlink. While it runs, one-to-one comlink calls near you land in your own chat box at full brightness however far away they started.
The Scanner: row sits under INTERCEPT at the bottom of the COMLINK picker. Selecting it flips the scanner and leaves the picker open.
Your comlink and both callers' comlinks must be On.
sf_interceptrange sets how far a Tech 3 scanner reaches from either end of a comlink call. 0 turns interception off for the whole server.
Things to note
- A lock you set refuses without words. Somebody turned away hears a buzz and reads nothing.
- A lock is not yours alone. Anyone at your rank or better with Tech 2 can take it straight off.
- Nobody is told they are being scanned. The only sign is the
[Intercept]badge on your own StoryForce indicator row.
Prefer the console?
/lock and /unlock both read your crosshair, reach 8,192 units and take no argument.
/intercept is the scanner, and runs from anywhere, alive or not. Bare, it reads the state back.
