Understand admin ranks

Holding any admin rank needs member or former member standing. A guest account and a disabled one hold none.

What needs no admin rank

Out the box, Awarding XP is not staff work. Any logged-in member can hand out XP, mark a whole cast, drop an XP pickup and read the server's entire award ledger.

A server can raise that floor to community admin with one setting, the award XP page covers what changes.

What each rank adds

The three ranks are additive. Clerical does everything community does, leadership does everything both do.

These are the shipped defaults. A server admin can move or switch off individual permissions with the three admin masks. See set permission bits for those controls.

  • Community admin is the storyteller's rank: the director's chair, NPCs, entities, groups, triggers, POIs, cameras, scene save/load, map prep, teleports, placemarks, body-state commands, and personal protections such as /god and /notarget.

  • Clerical admin adds anything that touches a person: creating accounts, moving membership, promoting to community, editing character records, overriding languages, kicking, and managing the community character pool.

  • Leadership admin adds five acts nobody else can: disabling accounts, changing passwords and rank override, banning players, setting a map's default scene.

Rank and director mode

Director mode is a separate route to story tools.

On a stock server, cameras, scene save/load, map prep, crawls and cinematics always need an active director.

Many other story tools become director-only while somebody is directing.

Account management, kicking and banning are not director tools. They still need the configured admin permission.

Admin rank is not character rank

Admin rank counts up: community, clerical, leadership.

Character rank counts down: rank 1 is the highest, and it gates rank-locked doors and spawn points.

A leadership admin can be playing a low-ranked character, such as a civilian or youngling.

Things to note

  • Admin rank belongs to the account, not the character. Switching characters changes nothing.
