Whisper and shout
Two shortcodes pitch a line down to the people beside you, or up across the room.
Whispering and shouting
Start the chat line with ^k to whisper, or ** to shout.
/whisper and /shout do the same, from the chat line or the console.
How far each one carries
Both channels go to every player on the server. What changes is the distance at which a listener's chat box still draws the line clearly. At Normal hearing:
- a whisper holds full strength to 60 game units and fades to 110
- a shout holds full strength to 1,000 game units and fades to 1,900
When chat fade is on, the line settles at 10% past the far figure.
Your character's hearing scales both ends of both bands. Change how chat looks and reaches you covers the other modes.
Distance does not remove these lines from the console.
Diplomacy widens whispers for the listener. Rank 2 moves the far distance from 110 to 220 units. Rank 3 makes it 330.
The full-strength distance stays at 60 before hearing modifiers. Learn a skill covers the cost.
