Chat and languages
"Meay vur forress be wi' ye, ken"
— Unknown Dialect, Unknown Speaker
Everything said in a scene: speech, actions, languages, and the settings that decide how it all draws on your screen.
Ordinary speech, whispers and shouts are public.
Distance changes how they draw, while chat filters can hide them.
Tells, team chat and Director Notes have their own recipients.
The console holds earlier lines until its buffer fills. Save a copy if you want to keep the scene.
I want to…
- speak in character - say a line as your character, describe what they do, and know who receives it
- whisper and shout - pitch a line down to the people beside you, or up across the room
- speak out of character - talk as yourself, to the room, to your team or to one person
- speak another language - choose which of your character's languages they are speaking
- understand what others are saying - the 3 ways a line arrives clear, and how a character learns a new tongue
- look up a language - find every shipped language and the name to type
- call someone on your comlink - reach someone who is not in the room, and know who else is listening
- change how chat looks and reaches you - the chat box, the bubble over your head, and how far a line carries
- read and save a scene's chat - scroll back through the console and save its text to a file
- colour your name - preview colour codes live and copy the /name command
