Set blur and focus on a waypoint
Depth of field belongs to a waypoint, not to a track, so you set it while you are framing the shot.
In the menus: ESC → Design → Camera → PLACE WAYPOINTS IN WORLD
Setting the three dials
Press TAB to reach Blur, Focus or Fore in the parameter strip, turn the WHEEL, and stamp the waypoint with MOUSE1.
All three preview live while you stand there. Set up a camera track covers the rest of that mode.
Two of the three have an "off" that is not zero.
| Dial | Range | What its bottom notch means |
|---|---|---|
| Blur | 0 to 30 | how soft the background goes. 0 is a real setting: sharp here, which is how you author the start of a ramp |
| Focus | 0 to 8000 units | the distance the shot is sharp at. Reads auto, meaning follow focus, not "no focus" |
| Fore | 0 to 30 | how soft anything close to the lens goes. Reads off, and its neutral is 20, which is what an untouched waypoint carries |
A capture writes all five dials at once, so re-stamping a shot with a dial back at zero clears what that slot had.
Pulling focus across a shot
Blur and Fore interpolate along the leg. Set Blur 0 on waypoint 1 and 20 on waypoint 3 and the shot goes soft over that span.
Focus interpolates too when the track contains a fixed focus distance.

/camera dof is the only way to retune a waypoint without going back out into the world. It always
names its track.
/camera list reads the values back per waypoint. Blur and focus appear only above zero, and the
foreground only off its neutral. A clean line therefore means the lens values are at their defaults.
It cannot tell an untouched waypoint from one deliberately stamped with Blur 0 as a sharp endpoint.
