Cameras, triggers and animations
"The droids do the work, the computers make the decisions, and somehow I still get blamed."
— Factory Supervisor
A camera moves everybody's view, an animation moves something you have already placed, and a trigger box fires either one.
I want to…
- build a camera track - place waypoints, pick the curve the camera flies and set how long it holds at each one
- fly a track for the whole room - play a built track to everyone, rehearse it on your own screen first, and stop it again
- hold the view on one spot - park everybody on a single waypoint, or loop them around a whole track
- blur and refocus a shot - set the depth of field on each waypoint, and find out who will actually see it
- keep a moving subject framed - turn a travelling camera towards a player or NPC
- make something I placed move - capture poses for a model, light, sound or effect and play them back
- move a whole group as one - fly a named group around a single pivot so the whole set turns together
- mark a spot that reacts - draw an invisible volume and set who trips it and how often
- control animations from a box - start placed animations together, or pause and resume them on each fire
- decide what a box does - build the list of cues a box runs, from the verbs it accepts
- build a cue from the panel - compose a cue with the picker instead of typing a command
- record a sequence into a box - capture what you do as you do it, then rehearse it before anyone walks in
