Flood the map with water

Water floods the whole map up to one height, including rooms below it.

In the menus: ESC → Direct → Scene → WATER & GRAVITY

Set the water level

  1. Select PLACE IN WORLD.
  2. Turn the wheel to raise or lower Height. Hold SHIFT for smaller steps or CTRL for larger ones.
  3. Press TAB to choose Style or Speed, then turn the wheel to change it.
  4. Press MOUSE1 to apply the water for everyone.

MOUSE2 discards changes you have not applied and returns to the panel. The preview is yours alone. Swimming and drowning still use the last applied height while you try a different one.

On a dry map, the preview starts at your feet with Calm water. Reopening it starts from the water already in place.

The dials

TAB walks through three dials:

  • Height is the surface's world height, 8 units a notch. SHIFT makes it 1, CTRL makes it 64
  • Style offers Classic, Glacial, Swamp, Dirty, Deep Ocean, Clear, Tropical and Calm
  • Speed changes the surface animation, from 0 to 300%, in steps of 10. It starts at 100%

Speed changes the look of the water. It does not raise the water over time or change swimming speed.

Drain the water

Select DRAIN WATER to remove the added flood for everyone. Water built into the map remains.

HARD RESET on the Prep panel also drains the flood. The ordinary PREP button leaves it in place.

Things to note

  • There is one height for the whole map. Walls and weather shelters do not keep a room dry below it.
  • The flood supports swimming and drowning. Previewing a surface alone does neither.

Change gravity and tilt the world covers the other controls on this panel.

Prefer the console?

/waterlevel <height|here> [style] [speed]
/waterlevel 72 calm 100

Height runs from -65536 to 65536. Speed is a whole number from 0 to 300. The console name for Deep Ocean is deep, and the other styles use their names in lower case.

Change only the style of active water, or drain it. Both succeed silently:

/waterlevel style swamp
/waterlevel off

Run /waterlevel bare to read the state and command help. After setting Calm water at height 72, the first line reads:
