Turn off the storm flash

A bright full-screen flash is a photosensitivity risk.

This switch stops it on your own screen. Nothing gates it, and nobody else sees or hears the change.

Turning the flash off

Press ~ for the console, then type:

/sf_lightning 0

It takes hold at once, is remembered between sessions, and travels with you from server to server.

/sf_lightning 1 puts the flash back. Setting it prints nothing.

There is a tick box for it too, if your ESC bar carries a Direct button.

In the menus: ESC → Direct → Scene → WEATHER → AMBIENCE

Clear the Storm flash and thunder tick.

What stops, and what carries on

Off stops 3 things on your machine:

  • the pale wash that covers the whole screen for about half a second
  • the burst of light a strike throws onto walls, doorways and floors
  • the thunder that follows a strike

Rain, snow, sand and wind carry on falling.

With the switch on, dry shelters still suppress lightning flashes and their light.

Roofs do the same while Quieten under cover is on. Thunder plays at 35% indoors.
