Group entities and move them as one

A group is a named set of placed things that moves and turns as one piece.

In the menus: ESC → Design → Manage → GROUPS

Make a group

Type a name into Name: and select CREATE.

Names take letters, numbers, dash and underscore, up to 24 characters, and cannot be all, none or active.

Auto-add ships ticked. With it ticked, a new group is empty and becomes your active group at once. Untick it to make the group without capturing new placements.

Your Auto-add choice is remembered between games.

Add things to a group

Capture what you place

Leave Auto-add ticked, select a group and press SET ACTIVE. Everything you place then joins it, and each placement confirm gains a tail naming the group:

^8+++^7 Placed '^2crate_bespin.md3^7' as entity ^24^8.^7 ^8|^7 joined group '^2dockcrates^7'

Press CLEAR ACTIVE to stop capture and clear the active group.

Group something already placed

On the ENTITIES tab, select the row and choose GROUP….

Highlight a group in the popup, then select ADD TO GROUP.

REMOVE FROM GROUP takes it out again and deletes nothing.

Models, lights, effects, sounds, spawn points, points of interest and placemarks can all be grouped. NPCs too from their own separate menu.

A thing belongs to one group at a time.

Move a group as one

HIGHLIGHT marks every member and the pivot in the world.

MOVE hands you a ghost of the whole group at your crosshair.

MOUSE1 moves it and ends the mode.

The dials are Yaw, X, Y, Z, Pitch, Roll and Grid. Use X, Y and Z to adjust position.

The group turns about the centre of its members until you set a pivot.

Select PIVOT, then choose AT CROSSHAIR, AT MY FEET, FREEZE AT CENTRE or FOLLOW CENTRE.

FREEZE AT CENTRE pins the current centre. FOLLOW CENTRE returns to a centre that moves as members change.

Animate a group covers the ANIMATE editor and its keyframes.

Share NPC actions

Turn on SYNC NPC to share poses, pace, weapons and combat actions across the group’s NPCs. Other members stay unchanged.

Move NPCs in formation covers sharing a route.

For vehicles, use RIDE and DISMOUNT as described in seat NPCs in vehicles.

Take a group apart

DISBAND dissolves the group and leaves every member where it stands.

DELETE removes the group and everything in it.
